pre-small RNA library prep

I am attempting to prep a small rna library and have heard of people selecting for the small rna prior to introduction into protocols. I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on these methods or kits. particularly, I am looking for a method that doesn't involve an acrylamide gel. we have done preps before but tend to get more mRNA and tRNA reads than we would like using the Illumina smRNA kit.

I have tried the MirVana Kit from Ambion/LifeTech. That works well and gives you everything below 200nt.
