Anyone know whether Epicentre 'an Illumina company' is discontinuing all 454 Nextera library products now that they are selling an updated Illumina version directly? Could not find any info on either site about it.

From our sales rep: "I was able to confirm to day that this kit is being discontinued as of May 2012. The final decision was made yesterday and an email will be sent to all of the customer base within the next day or two. Regards..."
And probably the protocol is patented so no other company can take up the slack.

Nextera DNA Sample Prep Kits (Roche 454-Compatible) will be available for sale through Epicentre Customer Service until May 31, 2012, with final shipments required by June 30, 2012. Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.
The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
